Game Development Intern

July 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The Internship was Off-site, meaning that I was able to work from my home in New Jersey over the summer and In my dorm in Worcester now. I was also working on a team with my friends so it was easy to communicate and talk with them about ideas. We were designing a game for them and the way they let us work was very freeform and loose. This gave us a lot of space to come up with interesting ideas for the game.

What I wish was different

The experience overall has been very good and I would not change much about it.

Advice

Working with a small team on game development has the chance to let you experience every part of the process of making a game. Use that experience when working with larger and smaller teams to understand what is possible from different departments( as well as your own) in a certain amount of time. This will help with grasping the concept of scope and time management while developing the game as well as with your work.

Penetration Testing Team Intern

May - August 2018 • Raleigh, NC

What I liked

The people who I worked with were wonderful and I learned a ton about computer security.

What I wish was different

I did not like their intern events as much as I thought I would. They had a summit for the interns and it was not very interesting and they struggled to maintain everyones attention.

Advice

That your coworkers are your best resources and shadowing many different people can be very helpful to understand the industry you are in.

Leap Intern

June - August 2019 • Smithfield, RI

What I liked

Management and team members were very accessible and friendly. I was encouraged to seek help, network, and ask professional advice. There was also plenty of internship events for charity, money management, technical presentations, and networking. For my project(s), I was given the freedom to pursue something I was interested, and was challenged, but supported during my time here.

What I wish was different

I had a great experience and would not change anything!

Advice

The internship is what you make of it. It is possible to glide through the summer without too much to show, and no one will babysit you to make sure you are doing your work. But if you really want to get as much experience as possible here, you will be encouraged and supported in doing so. Ask for help and for work!

Software Engieering Intern

June - August 2019 • Merrimack, NH

What I liked

It was really cool to have been able to see how Agile business practices are carried out in a real world environment. I gained exposure to what it would be like to work for a very large company. I got to see a lot of other departments and participate in intern events - the internship program there is very important to them.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more of a choice in which department I was placed in, or at least that I could have known before my first day.

Advice

I would certainly suggest taking advantage of this opportunity if it presents itself to you - Fidelity is an incredible company.

Technical Intern

May - August 2018 • Merrimack, NH

What I liked

I enjoyed the candid nature of the company, along with the fact that everyone was willing to adapt and be open minded about taking on different opportunities during my internship between departments. The flexibility was amazing, and I truly loved the experience.

What I wish was different

The bureaucracy is a bit intense on the administrative side, and while that did impact the first week or so of my internship, everyone was really understanding and mindful that this is just the way that such a large institution has to work.

Advice

Be honest with everyone around you! Fidelity provided me and my fellow interns with an environment to learn and contribute in equal parts. Make mistakes, talk to people, and most of all act with your team, you're only going to get the best out of this internship if you're just as ready to engage as your mentors and those around you.

Business Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Unfortunately I was originally put on a group with very little work for me to do and I was not learning. I started to learn and enjoy the scope of my work once I took the initiative to move onto a more technical team.

What I wish was different

Planning out projects for the interns prior to of the first week and ending up saying “oh, we have interns. Let’s find something for them to do.” Also, there were lots of technical issues which made it hard to do work for the first month without access to some softwares, computer issues, etc.

Advice

Fidelity truly cares more about what you will learn from the internship as opposed to what you can give to the team. If you feel like you aren’t learning or would like to experience something different, speak up!
