Being a cheesemonger is a lot of fun. You learn a lot on the job about culture and food from around the world. Cheese has a science to it. It's lovely. Plus it builds your people skills, as you listen to customer's needs, ask questions about their likes and dislikes, and match them with the perfect cheese.
What I wish was different
We were very understaffed.

Listen. Listening is the key to customer service and to any other relationship you want to form.

What I liked
I got to work with a team of other department manager s whom I grew to love and as it was my first time as a manager, I learned so much from them. I was in charge of event and that raised money for MS Society, reaching sale records in our store, hosting luncheons for big-shot company owners, and working with food which is my passion! Plus as I got to interact with a lot of customers, I became great friends with many of them.
What I wish was different
I wish that our store had been better staffed because I was asked to fill in for a lot of different people which took me away from my job duties. While I did receive awesome training and learned a lot of new skills, it was frustrating to not do my job all of the time.
Advice
Be brace! I was not qualified or very experienced when I randomly inquired about working for Harmons but I was brave and went for it anyway! And then after seeing how well I was doing and how valued I was, I went and asked for a raise review at my 4 month mark. That was nerve wracking but it turned out to be in my favor!

What I liked
They treat their employees really quite well. The staff were very friendly. It felt good to be a part of something.
What I wish was different
There is very little than I can say I wish was different. I found almost every aspect of the job perfectly acceptable.
Advice
Always be trying to become at customer service, especially if you haven't worked in a customer service position before. I know it may seem too simple to really get good at but trust me as you get better the job will become a lot more satisfying.
